Seaside murals

Two murals that I was commissioned to do. A seaside theme in a seaside town. I battled the weather from November to March, squeezing in time when storms had ceased and temperatures rose temporarily. Five layers were worn at all times!

Hockey

I recently started hockey. I've been thrown in the deep end with the top ladies and men in the club so I'm trying to learn fast and put myself out there in the matches with the few classes I've had. While I've grown more confident to make myself available for the ball and to tackle, it's what to do after that's what I need to work on. Quick thinking and determination!

This was a project done on a volunteer basis for Rush Tidy Towns. I had lots of help in 'colouring' it in because of the pebble dash. It took me, personally, about 24 hours with lots of helpers along the way.

Done voluntarily for Rush Tidy Towns. A seamstress named Amelia Foley used to live here so I kept it simple with the odd detail.

Orna says, "Laura, draw me." I say, "In the weird style?" She says, "Yes." So here you go. It was only a quick sketch. I think this is how I'll draw people from now on. No need for realism!

New notebook

I've started a new notebook. Yippee!!

Child-artist Laura

The first picture below is how 6-year old Laura drew HAPPY, SAD, ANGRY and SCARED faces. A plain face just wouldn't do. I actually remember sitting down at the kitchen table finishing this off. I feel as if my thoughts were as they are now because I remember thinking, why did I put that weird shape on the scared face, it looks a bit like a moustache. It hung up in the school hall as part of the End of Year Art Exhibition.

The teacher was amazed how I used perspective in the picture, ie. not just putting all of the figures in a row as a child would usually at age 6 (nearly 7). This is Niamh Kavanagh when she won the Eurovision all those years ago!!!

Paintings

So I haven't used paints in years (apart from colouring in between the lines for my window illustrations). I decided to just paint freely with a big brush and what ever happened, happened. The face is from my head, the girl is from a magazine, and the last is a picture of my friend who asked me to do it in the moment. These were very quick, about twenty minutes each, and NOT masterpieces in any sense of the word, just trials. You may just laugh at them, as my friend did, or say "Why do you paint so weird?" as my brother did, to which my response was: "I just don't have the patience to paint with precision." Well not yet anyway. Ah sure it's all about experimenting anyway and passing by a few hours of a Friday afternoon.

Easter is here!!!

Someone said to me, 'I don't really get the singing chicken.' I was like 'What's not to get? It's Easter, it's a chicken. It's like it came out of the shell singing!!!!'
